(June 4, 2026) — Please join the Haddam Land Trust and the Connecticut Botanical Society for a walk to Shopboard Rock on Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Shopboard Rock is a big part of Haddam history. The ridge is dominated by oak/hickory forest, with many mature pitch pines within. Deer pressure is heavy and the understory is sparse. We will walk through the preserve and identify the plants. In addition to pitch pine, there are some remnant sprouts of American Chestnut.
Directions: Boulder Dell Road (between Young Horizons Day Care and the Gulf station). Take a right at the dead end, which is still Boulder Dell Road. Turn left on Maynard Road. There is a parking area on the right. If the parking area is full, park along Maynard Road.
