Tony Giamei, Managing Editor

Tony Giamei has been a Higganum resident for over 25 years.

– worked as a Materials Scientist at United Technologies for 33 years
– served as Haddam Registrar for 4 years and continues as assistant registrar and/or moderator
– served as a reporter on the Haddam Bulletin for several years
– has been an active member of several volunteer organizations since 1980
– loves investing, cooking, nature, baseball and fishing

Meghan Peterson, PhD – Reporter

Meghan Peterson is a wife, mom, political scientist, professor at UConn-Avery Point, writer, dancer, fitness instructor, avid newspaper-reader, and outdoor enthusiast. She calls Haddam home with her husband, Dave, and their rambunctious child, along with their three rather spunky pet duckies. When she is not burning dinner, carrying a mischievous baby, researching law enforcement topics, grading papers, or taking modern dance/jazz/ballet classes, Meghan can be found writing about various goings-on in Town.

Deb Thomas, Reporter/Editor

A writer since the age of 9, Deb has milked cows, mended lobster pots and worked as a photo journalist, painter and musician. After high school, she hiked extensively through the northern New England states, and section-hiked nearly all of the Appalachian Trail. After UCONN’s School of Education, Deb worked as a specialty construction underwriter until retiring to the Hidden Lake District of Higganum to raise twins. A lifelong advocate for small farms and farmland preservation, she’s worked as a writer for ConnLife, The Hometown Journal, New England Natural, and the Haddam Bulletin. Coming off four years as Chairwoman of the Higganum Village Farmers’ Market, and one of its original founders, she’s currently working on her third book. When not reading, writing or spilling paint in her garage, she is most likely working with her music partner.

Joanne Nesti, Copy Editor

Joanne Nesti has been a Haddam resident since 1980. She has served on the RSD 17 Board of Education, including two years as Board Chair; the Haddam Board of Finance; the Capital Planning Committee; the Haddam Sustainability Committee; and the Haddam Historical Society Board of Directors. She was a news anchor at WVIT-TV, (NBC Connecticut), and worked as a news reporter and anchor at several radio stations in Connecticut, including WTIC, WPOP, and WWYZ.

Carl Cavrell, Editor

Carl is a retired teacher of 37 years and presently the building substitute at HKMS.  He has been a Haddam Resident for over 20 years.  Carl is responsible for coverage on Education, Sports, and Obituaries.

Sharon Challenger, Senior Editor

Sharon has lived in Higganum with husband David since 2006.  Graduated from Wesleyan University and Yale University School of Drama. Volunteer experience includes HK Now/News, HVFC Auxiliary, Red Cross Disaster Action Team, Rotary, Association of Yale Alumni, Griffin Hospital, This Close for Cancer Research, & Artistic Associate National Puppetry Conference, Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.  She is responsible for Fire & Rescue stories as well as our calendar.  She also fills in other spots as people are unavailable.

Craig Salonia, Advertising Manager

Craig is our Advertising Manager.  Craig worked for General Electric Corporation [GE Healthcare] for 30 years and has recently retired.  Currently engaged in vacation travel, social activities and his hobby [coins].

Laura is a proud wife and mother of three grown men and grandmother to seven very active grandkids.  Laura and her husband Doug moved to Killingworth from Woodstock, CT in 2019.  She is a graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University where she also served as the Chapel Program Coordinator and Assistant to the Dean of the School of Ministry for 10 years.  Laura is an active volunteer in Killingworth; she is a member of the Killingworth Historical Society and the Lions, currently serving on the Lion’s Board of Directors among other things.  Laura loves going to all of the events in and around Killingworth and writing about them.
