Editor’s Note: HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News asked the candidates in the November 2026 election to provide brief biographies as a way of introducing themselves to voters. The statement below is from George Austin, who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives from the Second Congressional District. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News are not responsible for errors in grammar, usage, punctuation or spelling.
George Austin is 37. He’s a contractor, a coach, a husband, and a father of two, living in Suffield, Connecticut. His parents came to this country from Mexico, and he grew up speaking English and Spanish at home. That matters now more than ever, especially in Willimantic and Norwich, where he talks to voters in both languages.

Austin studied Construction Management at Central Connecticut State University. Since then he’s spent his career running a small business, meeting payroll, and standing on job sites. He knows what it costs to build something and what it costs to keep it running. He belongs to the Home Builders and Remodelers Association and the National Federation of Independent Business.
Austin says eastern Connecticut needs a voice in Washington that actually understands regular people, the ones he calls lunchbox people. He’s got a simple test for twenty years of representation there. Has your grocery bill gone up or down? Your rent? Your gas? Most families already know the answer.
His platform is straightforward. Fix the FHA rule that keeps homeowners paying mortgage insurance long after they’ve earned their equity. Get more young people into the trades, because a housing shortage is really a worker shortage. Bring real, immediate relief on energy bills instead of another ten year promise. And put eastern Connecticut first, every time, no matter which party is in charge.
“If twenty years was going to fix it, it already would have,” Austin says. It’s the line that sums up his whole campaign. This isn’t about ideology. It’s about a guy who builds houses and coaches football asking his neighbors a simple question: what’s another twenty years actually going to cost you?
