Letter to the Editor: In Support of RSD 17 Education Budget

My husband (at the time) and I moved to Killingworth in 1997. A big part of why we moved here was because of the Region 17 reputation. We planned to raise our family here and felt that a good education was a gift to our children and their future. We also felt that a good school system made our home more marketable in the future when we retired, downsized, etc.

I have always voted YES to the annual school budget for the above reasons. I no longer have a child in the school system, but I still recognize the immeasurable value of a solid education. I don’t vote NO because it no longer affects me. I vote YES because it affects us all.

The latest adjustment to the school budget is an increase of 4.46%. I pay around $7600 per year in property tax. Doing some quick math, my contribution to the school system increase is $339, a hair more $28 a month. I’ll pay that to support the children in our school system; they’re worth it and so is our town.

Paige Ryan, Killingworth
