(May 1, 2026) — Happy May! See the link below for the latest iteration of our newsletter! We have partnered with LPi Publications to create a new version of our newsletter, which will allow us to scale it over time. We also are very excited to have local businesses sponsoring our newsletter, so please check them out and support them, as we are grateful for their partnership as well.

We have one change to the attached schedule, as we’ve had to cancel the Cindy Stevens painting workshop on Monday May 11, 2026 due to a family issue. We will reschedule that as soon as Cindy is available again. We will substitute a GameDay session in that slot. On to the May highlights!

We kick things off on Monday, May 4th with our May Birthday Celebration! Our birthday celebrations feature a delicious cake made by our very own Carol Liebman.

On Tuesday, May 5th we’ve got Sherry Carlson from CRAHD coming in for both a Blood Pressure Clinic at 11:30 a.m. and for a “Lunch and Learn” session at 12:00 Noon. This session is called “What You Need to Know About Ticks.” There is already a dramatic increase (up 40%) this Spring in ticks tested for Lyme Disease, so this is important information for all to hear, especially as we head outdoors.

On Thursday, May 14th  at 12:30 p.m., in honor of our country’s 250th anniversary, we are excited to welcome Higganum resident and local historian Phil Devlin to the Haddam Senior Center! Phil will talk about the impact Haddam and the surrounding towns in Middlesex County had on the Revolutionary War. Phil is a knowledgeable and engaging speaker, so this promises to be a great event.

On Tuesday, May 19th  at 12:15 p.m., we’ve got Lea Tomaszewski from the Middletown chapter of Weight Watchers coming in for another “Lunch and Learn” session. She will talk about the Weight Watchers program and the Middletown chapter specifically. (For any of the “Lunch and Learn” sessions, you are welcome to either sign up for lunch or bring your own).

On Wednesday, May 20th we will have our next Senior Van trip to Boscov’s! The van will leave the HES parking lot promptly at 9:30 a.m. We will stop for lunch at the Athena Diner before heading back to town. Space is limited (9), so please call or stop by the Senior Center to sign up.

As always, we have our regularly scheduled daily, weekly and monthly events! We serve a delicious hot lunch every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (suggested donation $3) and Friday (suggested donation $5). We also host all levels Mobility on Monday and Thursday, T’ai Chi every Friday, and Bingo is held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Check out the attached calendar for times. Lastly, stay tuned for an upcoming Senior Resource Fair on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Saint Peter Church in Higganum. More details to come on that.

Please Note:  The Haddam Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026 in honor of Memorial Day. As a result, our Mystery Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
