Programs and Events at Haddam Senior Center, February 2026

Submitted by Doreen Staskelunas, Haddam Senior Center Activities Coordinator

(January 30, 2026) — The following programs and events will take place at the Haddam Senior Center during the month of February, 2026. Please see the link below for full details.

FEBRUARY 2026 Event Calendar

Highlights of the month include the following:

Tuesday February 3rd at 11:30 a.m. – Sherry Carlson from CRAHD will be here for the monthly blood pressure screenings. Sign-up is not required.

Monday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. – We are excited to partner with Haddam Killingworth Youth and Family Services who will be here to present QPR Suicide Prevention and Naloxone Training. This is a free training course to learn the three steps anyone can take to prevent a suicide and be a resource to those who might be struggling. For those who may not know, Naloxone is an opiate antidote, which means it can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. We do request signing up for this training in advance to ensure we have enough materials for everyone. You can sign up by emailing or calling the Senior Center or by stopping in to sign up in person.

Thursday, February 12th at 12:00 Noon will be our monthly Pizza and a Movie. We will be showing “The Notebook” starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. “The Notebook” is based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name, and follows the love story of a young couple who fall in love in the 1940’s with their story being read from a notebook in the modern day by an elderly man telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident.

Friday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m., Cathy from Cathy & Co. will be here for a Valentine’s Day Floral Workshop. The cost for this workshop is $20 for Haddam Seniors and $25 for non-resident Haddam Seniors. Please call, email or stop by the Senior Center to reserve your spot.

Monday, February 16th The Senior Center will be closed in observance of Presidents Day.

Thursday, February 26th at 12:30 p.m. – We will be celebrating all of our February birthdays! Join us for a delicious cake baked by our very own Carol Liebman!

Thursday February 26th at 1:00 p.m. – We will have the next installment of our Mystery Book Club. We are hoping to get the next book in soon, which is “Lost Hills” by Lee Goldberg.

Friday, February 27th at 11:30 a.m. – Mini Spa Manicures! Sign up for this fun treat. Space is limited, and the cost for the manicure is $20.

We also have our regularly scheduled programs:

  • Mah Jongg  – Every Monday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
  • All Levels Mobility – Every Monday and Thursday at 11:15 a.m.
  • Bingo – On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 12:45 p.m.
  • Lunch – Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 12:00 Noon. Advance reservation is required, and we request a $3 donation for lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and $5 on Fridays.

If you regularly or even occasionally eat lunch at the Senior Center, I do need to have an updated Form 5 on file for you to participate in the reduced lunch program. Forms are located on the Town of Haddam website and at the Senior Center.

Winter Weather Advisory Information:

As we head further into the winter season, I wanted to review our Winter Weather Protocol again. As we typically open later than the schools, we do not follow the RSD17 school closings per se. A decision on closing the Senior Center will take place as soon as possible, and will be made no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day the Center is scheduled to be open. Once the decision to close is made, it will be posted on the Town of Haddam webpage, Haddam, CT | Official Website; and our Facebook page, Senior Center – Haddam Connecticut. I also will send an email to this distribution list and update the phone message when you call the Senior Center. The town also tries to get the closing added to WTNH-TV Channel 8’s bottom line notifications.
