Submitted by Tammy Eustis, Assistant Director, Killingworth Library Association

(July 29, 2025) — The following programs and events will take place at Killingworth Library during the month of August 2025. For programs that require pre-registration, visit the Calendar on the library’s website – killingworthlibrary.org – or call 860-663-2000.

Family Board Game Night – Monday, August 4, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Stop by and try out some of the library’s board games! We’ll have options for all age groups. Bring family or friends, or meet someone new to play with. This is a drop-in event; no registration is necessary.

Dragonfly Investigation – Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Join the Steward Outdoor Day School with a hands-on STEAM experience! We will explore the world of dragonflies, investigating their habitat, behavior and life cycle. Then, design a detailed dragonfly to take home. Suitable for ages 5 through 10 years. Please remember that adults must remain on the premises with any child under the age of 12. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Summer “Drive-In” Movies – Tuesdays in August at 5:30 p.m. Bring a beach blanket and come to the Children’s Room for a “drive-in” movie! Little patrons and their families are invited to enjoy a bag of Smartfood popcorn while enjoying a feature film. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
August 5th:   The Little Mermaid  (Running Time: 1 hour, 23 minutes)
August 12th: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days  (Running Time: 1 hour, 34 minutes)

Adult Movie Night – Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join us for a viewing of Conclave. When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with leading one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, selecting a new Pope, he finds himself at the center of a web of conspiracies and intrigue that could shake the very foundation of the Catholic Church. We will be meeting in the adult reading area after the library closes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks. Please register in advance.

Writers Writing – Continues on Fridays, August 8, 2025 and August 22, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Our popular writing workshop continues through the summer, with a focus on personal writing: memoirs and personal essays. We will continue with free writes, short lectures, handouts on strategy, and revision discussions and assignments. NOTE: sharing is not required – shyness and uncertainty are always welcome. Registration is preferred, but please drop in if you are considering an ongoing writing group. Suitable for teens through seniors.

Spy Games – Monday, August 11, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, will be to bring in a favorite book and/or movie about spies to share with the group. We will discuss the history of spies, and some of the technology involved. What kind of spy gadget would you invent? Spy-themed games will be on hand to try out. This program is for older children and tweens. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
