(May 31, 2025) — Welcome to June at the Haddam Senior Center! We’ve got some fun new offerings this month, so please spread the word!
- Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. – Sherry Carlson from CRAHD (Connecticut River Area Health District) will be here for our monthly blood pressure screening. No sign-up is required.
- Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. – *NEW* Cindy MacNeil-Sola will be here for Medium Readings! Space is limited so call the Senior Center at 860-345-2480 to reserve a spot. The cost for a twenty-minute session is $35 (a $10 saving) If there is on-going interest, we will have this as a standing monthly event.
- Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 12:00 Noon – Our monthly Pizza and a Movie! We will be showing the movie “Conclave” starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini. This 2024 political thriller gives an inside look at a fictional papal conclave where the Cardinal who organizes it finds himself investigating secrets and scandals surrounding the top candidates. Please call or stop by the Senior Center to reserve your spot.
- Friday, June 13, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. – We’ve got Cathy from Cathy & Company Botanical Designs coming in for our next floral designing workshop. The cost for this session is $20 for Haddam Seniors and $25 for non-resident Seniors. Sign-up is also required for this event.
- Monday, June 16, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. – Join Leon Mularski of the Haddam Land Use Department for a presentation of the plans for our new Senior Center! We are extremely excited about the new space and what we will be able to do with it. Come see for yourself what’s in store for Haddam Seniors. Reservations are not required for this presentation.
- Thursday, June 19, 2025 is the holiday Juneteenth. While the Haddam Senior Center will be open, our food provider is closed. We will still have lunch that day, so stay tuned for more details on what that will look like. For those who may not know, Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day, June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people were freed. Also known as Freedom Day or America’s second Independence Day, it is recognized as a federal holiday and celebrates African American culture and heritage.
- Friday, June 20, 2025 at 12:00 Noon – We will have our monthly Friday Lunch Special, prepared by the Kitchen at Futures Inc. The lunch on this day will be tuna casserole,
- Friday, June 20, 2025 at 12:30 p.m., we are extremely excited to welcome classical guitarist, Michael Hardy for a special performance at the Haddam Senior Center! This concert is part of the outreach programming of the Summer Solstice for classical guitar run by the Candlewood Farm Arts Foundation. This is the third year that the Candlewood Farm Arts Foundation has partnered with the Haddam Senior Center and we are extremely grateful for this partnership. There is no fee or sign-up required for the concert. (There are additional performances throughout the weekend. Please go to the Candlewood Farm Arts Foundation for more information on these performances).
- Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. – The Haddam Senior Center will be closed so that all Haddam Seniors can enjoy the Senior Picnic at St. Peter Church. The picnic is sponsored by the Haddam Committee on Aging and we request attendees to sign up in advance. There are a variety of folks you can contact to reserve a seat, including the Senior Center (see picnic flyer below).

- Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. – Chris Blancarte from Senior Resources Agency on Aging will be here for a Nutrition Ed presentation on “Brain Healthy Aging” as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
- Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:30am – *New* Chair Massages! The Haddam Senior Center will begin offering chair massages on a monthly basis! This is an opportunity for a gentle 15 minute chair massage by a licensed massage therapist. Each session will cost $17.50. The benefits of chair massage for seniors include:

- Improved muscle recovery and elimination of lactic acid after exercise
- Improved cardiovascular health
- Reduced chronic pain
- Increased range of motion
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved sleep quality

- Also on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. we will have our monthly Mini Spa Manicures! It’s truly a spa day at the Senior Center! Space is also limited for this fun, pampering event so please call or stop by the Senior Center to reserve a time.
- Monday, June 30, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. we will celebrate everyone who has a birthday in June! Stop by and have some delicious cake to celebrate!
In addition to all of the above, we have our regularly scheduled programs:
Mahjongg on Mondays and Thursdays @ 10:00am, Cards every Tuesday @ 10:30am and 12:30pm, Bingo on the 1st and 3rd Thursday @ 12:45pm, Mobility every Thursday @ 11:15am, and T’ai Chi will continue through June on Fridays @ 10:00am. We also serve hot lunch every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at noon, for a suggested donation of $3. Hopefully there is something for everyone!
