Haddam to Use New Voting Equipment

NOTICE TO VOTERS – NEW VOTING EQUIPMENT

The Connecticut Secretary of the State has provided new, updated voting equipment for all towns in the state.  We will begin using the new tabulators effective with the May 6, 2025 RSD#17 School Budget Referendum.

Unlike older tabulators, the new ESS scanner has a computer screen above the slot where voters insert their ballot. There are on-screen prompts to guide the voter.  Once the voter inserts their ballot into the slot, the scanner reads, counts and saves an image of the ballot.  This process is not displayed on the screen. The voter should wait until the screen says “Thank You” before walking away.

Should a voter make a mistake on their ballot, the screen will alert the voter as to the type of error and give the voter options to correct the ballot.

After the “Thank You” message, the scanner will securely store the ballot in a sealed compartment.
