Submitted by Doreen Staskelunas, Senior Center Activities Coordinator

(March 26, 2025) — The following programs and events will be held at the Haddam Senior Center, 920 Saybrook Road in Haddam during the month of April, 2025. Highlights are as follows, or click on the link for the complete calendar and menu.

APRIL 2025 Event Calendar and Menu

We start off on Friday, April 4, 2025 with T’ai Chi at 10:00 a.m. and our Hot Lunch Friday featuring roasted salmon, scalloped potatoes, roasted squashes and cheddar biscuits served at noon. Please sign up for lunch by 1:00 p.m. the day before.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. we will welcome Tammy Anderson, the Haddam Town Assessor, who will talk about town and state tax relief programs for the elderly and disabled.

On Thursday, April 10, 2025 the Haddam Senior Center is excited to present the Exponential Ensemble!

Founded in 2011 by clarinetist Pascal Archer, Exponential Ensemble is a mixed chamber music collective that is comprised of New York City’s top-notch performers and teaching artists. Each season the ensemble presents compelling programs that include both classical masterworks and contemporary masterpieces to a variety of audiences. (*Exponential Ensemble also will be performing at the Higganum Congregational Church, 23 Parsonage Road, on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.).

Looking to have sparkly, pretty nails for Easter or Passover? Sign up for our mini-spa manicure session on Friday, April 11, 2025 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Space is limited; sign-up and a $20 fee are required.

Have you seen the movie “Wicked”? Even if you have, come see it again! Join us on Monday, April 14, 2025 for our monthly Pizza and a Movie event! Call or sign up at the Senior Center to reserve your spot.

On Monday, April 21, 2025 Sherry Carlson from Connecticut River Area Health District (CRAHD) will be at the Senior Center for a blood pressure clinic beginning at 11:30 a.m. Advanced reservation for this event is not required.

Our next floral arranging workshop will be on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. We are mixing things up this month with a silk floral workshop. Advance reservation is required and there will be a fee for Haddam seniors and a fee for non-resident seniors. Call or email the Senior Center for details and to sign up.

Rounding out the month, we will host Alison Dvorak from Senior Resources Agency on Aging to talk about their organization, who they are and the services they provide. Some of the services Senior Resources provides include being advocates for seniors and the disabled with our legislature; they also are the organization that negotiates the food contract with our food vendors providing congregate and homebound meals. They do a whole lot more than that, so come on down to hear more about them!

If there is something you want to do or see at the Senior Center, reach out to Doreen Staskelunas at 860-345-2480 or at seniors@haddam.org. We are always looking for new ideas!
