HVFC Answers Seven Calls in Less than Three Hours

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Public Information Officer

(February 13, 2025) — Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to seven consecutive calls for emergency services on February 11, 2025 over a two-and-a-half hour time span.

Between 4:05 p.m. and 5:10 p.m., crews responded to a respiratory distress call on Island Dock Road, and two medical alarm calls on Woods Road and Hubbard Road. At 4:40 p.m., crews returned to Island Dock Road to assist a patient having cardiac problems.

At 5:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a residence on Gunger Hill Road for a chimney fire (photo above). The fire was contained to the chimney. Crews accessed the chimney from the roof and used special chimney chains to knock the burning debris from the flue.

At 6:30 p.m., HVFC was dispatched to a business on Killingworth Road to investigate an odor of smoke. And at 7:00 p.m., crews assisted a resident at High Meadow Place who was having respiratory problems.
