Haddam Senior Center Events Calendar and Menu, February 2025

Submitted by Doreen Staskelunas, Haddam Senior Center Activities Coordinator

(February 1, 2025) — Before I list the highlights from our February 2025 Activities Calendar, I wanted to share the good news that our current food providers for both congregate and Meals on Wheels (MOW) will continue through September 2026!

This is wonderful news and a relief for many. Our congregate food provider, the Kitchen at Futures Inc and our MOW provider, Mom’s Meal’s, have been great partners with us providing delicious and nutritious meals for Haddam Seniors.

If you haven’t been to the Senior Center recently, I encourage you to check out the congregate meals. They are served every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (and select Fridays) at noon. The cost per meal is a $3 donation. If you know of a senior who is homebound and could benefit from the MOWs program, please reach out or have them reach out to Doreen at the Senior Center (860-345-2480 or seniors@haddam.org) or Becky Rice in Social Services (860-345-4621 or socialservices@haddam.org) to get started. The cost for MOWs is also $3 donation per meal.

February Highlights:

Friday, February 7, 2025 – I am excited to announce two special programs! First, for the month of February, we will have Tai Chi on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. I know many of you have been waiting for this! Tom Cushing will be leading this program for us, and we hope it will continue into March and beyond. We also welcome Cathy from Cathy & Company for a special Valentine’s Day Flower Arrangement Workshop at 1:00 p.m. There is a materials fee of $10 for Haddam Seniors ($15 for Non-Residents).

Monday, February 10, 2025 – Join us for Corn Hole and board games at 1:00 p.m.

Thursday February 13, 2025 – Our monthly Pizza and a Movie is “The King’s Speech” and begins promptly at 12:00 Noon. “The King’s Speech” is a 2010 historical drama film starring Colin Firth. He plays the future King George VI who, to cope with a stammer, sees Lionel Logue, an Australian speech and language therapist. The men become friends as they work together, and after his brother abdicates the throne, the new king relies on Logue to help him make his first wartime radio broadcast upon Britain’s declaration of war on Germany in 1939.

Friday February 14, 2025 – Happy Valentine’s Day! In addition to Tai Chi at 10:00 a.m., we will be serving a hot lunch at 12:00 Noon (Advanced reservation is required), followed by a mini spa manicure session beginning at 1:00 p.m. Space for this session is limited (4) and anyone interested will need to sign up. There is a fee of $20, which will include filing and trimming nails, hand massage and polish. A variety of colored polish will be available, or you can bring a color of your choice. It also includes personal tools for your use only. This is a trial program, and if there’s interest we will look to expand it in the future. Please call or email the Senior Center to reserve your spot.

Monday February 17, 2025– The Senior Center will be closed in observance of Presidents Day.

Wednesday February 19, 2025 – Our next bus trip will be to Boscov’s Department Store in Meriden, followed by lunch at Chili’s or Texas Roadhouse in Cromwell. Seating is limited (11); please call or email the Senior Center to reserve a seat on the bus. Also list your preference of Chili’s or Texas Roadhouse for lunch. The restaurant with the majority of votes, is where we will go. The bus will leave the former Haddam Elementary School (HES) promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Friday February 21, 2025 and Friday, February 28, 2025 – Tai Chi Session with Tom Cushing at 10:00 a.m.

Click on the link below for the full calendar and menu. We are always looking for new programs. If there is something you would like to see, please contact me and I will try to add it!
