(January 26, 2025) — The following is a summary of programs and events to be held at Killingworth Library during the month of February, 2025. Please remember that all library programs require pre-registration, so staff can prepare supplies and seating. Visit the Calendar on the library’s website – killingworthlibrary.org – or call 860-663-2000. If you sign up and are unable to attend, there is a link for easy cancellation in the confirmation email that you receive at the time of registration.

Take Your Child to the Library Day – Saturday, February 1, 2025. From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., families are invited to celebrate this national event with a visit to the library! Explore everything that the library has to offer, and participate in a Book Character Scavenger Hunt. Find the storybook bunnies hidden in the library and win a prize. Registration is required for the following two special programs at 10:30 a.m.:
Craft and Story Time with Mrs. Fig. Children up to age 5 and their family members are invited to hear the stories “Bunny Slopes” and “I Wish It Would Snow.” Then, create your own paper art bunny.
Library Tour and Creative Time. Ages 6 to 10 are invited to take an interactive tour of the library that reflects their interests. What do you love to explore – science, mythology, history, etc.? We have materials and resources to help you learn more. Following the tour, attendees will have open creative time to draw or write about the library and their special interests.

Adult Movie Night – Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. Meet us in the adult reading area to enjoy a showing of The Big Year, starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson – in celebration of National Bird Feeding Month. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks.

Get Busy with Beavers – Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Join the HK Family Hikers for a beaver-themed morning of activities and exploration. The fun starts at the library – Mrs. Fig will read a story and lead a craft (registration required). At 11:15 a.m., families can follow the Winter Hike leaders to Winkel Pond, to explore the beaver habitat and participate in an easy, family-friendly hike. (The hike will finish up at around 12:30 p.m.) Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. Participants should visit www.hkyfs.org/event for any inclement weather updates. Suitable for elementary-aged children and their family members.

Art for All – Monday, February 10, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. Explore the art and music of the Art Deco period (1910-1930), with some interesting history facts, too. Coloring sheets, collage material, and art supplies will be provided. You may also bring in a project you are working on. No artistic skills necessary, just an interest in expressing yourself. Suitable for adults and seniors.

Decorate a Special Box – Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. It’s a half day of school! Come and decorate your very own treasure, treat, or trinket box. Whether you want to make this for yourself or as a Valentine’s Day gift for someone special, we have all the colorful supplies you’ll need. Suitable for elementary ages K through 3.

Create a Vision Board – Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 5:00 pm. We’re a little over a month into the new year. Have you given any thought to your dreams and goals? Join us for a relaxing evening of thoughtfulness and collage, as we create Vision Boards, a map of your plans for 2025. All supplies will be provided – just bring your ideas. Suitable for teens through seniors.

“Souper” Bingo – Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Hosted by the Killingworth Women’s Organization and Senior Connections Committee, “Souper” Bingo winners will win cans of hearty soup. No cash prizes will be awarded. A donation of $3.00 will cover cards for nine games, as well as snacks and raffle tickets. Daubers are $2. Due to a limit of twenty-five players, reservations are required. Please register through the library calendar, at killingworthlibrary.libcal.com/event/13906897.

Be a “Noticer”/The Nature Journals of Nancy Armstrong – Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. If you’ve visited the library in January, you’ve probably stopped to admire the collection of beautifully illustrated nature journals in our display case. By popular demand, Nancy Armstrong will be joining us to discuss her work. If you’ve ever considered starting your own nature journal, or if you’ve just enjoyed viewing her art, register to save your seat. Nancy will explain why you don’t need to be an artist to keep a nature journal… In the words of Hugh Lofting, you only need to be a “noticer.” The program will feature a short talk followed by a Q&A session. Nancy will also have some of her journals available for viewing. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
