Haddam Senior Center Menu, Events and Highlights for July 2024

Submitted by Doreen Staskelunas

(June 29, 2024) — Hard to believe we are heading into July! We’ve got some exciting news from the Senior Center in the coming month.

First off, beginning the week of July 8, 2024 we are adding an additional day to our schedule! The Haddam Senior Center will now be open on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. We will not have a served lunch available to start, but we hope to bring that in at some point in the future. Neal Perron will be your host on Fridays, so stay tuned as we move forward with additional events scheduled on that day, too.

Speaking of Neal, I should also mention that beginning July 1, 2024, the Senior Van will also have expanded hours! The van will be available for appointments from 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. You can contact Neal at 860-682-3301 to schedule your appointment pick-up times.

A couple of highlights for July:

  • We will have Sherry Carlson from CRAHD beginning a new series with us. Effective Monday, July 15, 2024, Sherry will be coming to the Senior Center on the third Monday of the month to do blood pressure checks. There is no sign-up required, but she will be there beginning at 11:30 a.m.
  • I’m very excited to announce that we have AARP coming on Monday, July 29, 2024. AARP will be at the Senior Center to present their acclaimed “Safe Driving Course,” which will start promptly at 1:00 p.m. and run until 5:00 p.m., so plan your schedule accordingly. This event will require advanced reservations and does have a cost associated. It’s $20.00 for AARP members, and $25 for non-members. More information will be coming out about this, so stay tuned to your email and the Senior Center Facebook page.
  • Our Pizza and a Movie for July is scheduled for Thursday July 25, 2024 at 12:00 Noon, and will feature “The Greatest Showman.”

We have been enjoying delicious meals provided by the Kitchen at Futures, Inc. in Middletown, which is our new congregate food provider. If you haven’t tried them yet, I encourage you to do so! Lunches are $3.00 (except where noted) and require a current Form 5 and advanced reservation. Please sign up before 1:00 p.m. the day before so that we can accommodate your request. Hot lunch is provided Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at noon.
