Spectrum Gallery Exhibit: Power and Strength, March 24, through May 6, 2023

There are many ways artists explore the concepts of “power” and “strength.”  Spectrum Art Gallery has curated an exhibition of some of the most innovative and commanding artwork to illustrate this theme. Call for Artists! Essex Green Summer Arts Festival. Seeking artists and fine artisans for the outdoor arts festival on the Essex Town Green, Saturday, June 17, 2023 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, June 18, 2023 (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Paint a Bunny in Watercolor. Hop into Spring as you learn to paint an adorable bunny in watercolor. These techniques can be applied to painting other furry creatures, so prepare to be inspired! Basic drawing skills are encouraged but not necessary. Instructor will provide the reference from which you will make a contour (outline) drawing before class. Material list available upon registration. Sunday, April 2, 2023. 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost:  $75 per person.

Introduction to Botanical Illustration in Colored Pencil. If you’ve ever wanted to try drawing botanicals, this is the class! Learn the basic techniques of botanical illustration using colored pencil. Learn to sketch, shade, create form, and to layer color as you create interest and depth, draw simple flowers, draw and shade leaves. Material list available upon registration. Saturday, April 15, 2023. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. $45, with a $5 flower material fee paid to instructor.

Dream Catcher Earrings. Learn to wire-weave gorgeous Dream Catcher earrings using your choice of genuine gemstones or Swarovski Crystals. Techniques are demonstrated along with how to add gemstones and ear wire to make jewelry complete. No experience necessary. Tools provided. Sunday, April 23, 2023. 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. $45, plus $7 materials fee paid to instructor.

Pure Beeswax Candle Making. Obtain a greater understanding of honeybee life, where beeswax comes from, and why these candles are extra-special.  Each participant makes two different sets of 100% pure beeswax candles which burn slowly, smell fantastic and leave no unhealthy residue.  Receive pre-cut beeswax sheets with the highest quality cotton wick to roll into candles which you keep yourself or for unique gifts! No previous experience required. Sunday, April 30, 2023. 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. $45 per person, with $10 material fee paid to instructor.

Botanical Illustration Basics in Pen and Ink. Pen and ink is great fun! Give it a try and be introduced to the basics of ink application, including line work and stippling using micron pens. Workshop focuses on single botanical subject (provided by instructor). Learn the skills and begin drawing botanical illustrations in this medium with instructor’s tips to make your drawings more successful.  Material list available upon registration. Saturday, May 6, 2023. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. $45, with $5 material fee paid to instructor.

 Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers sought to help at gallery show installations, festivals (next one in June, 2023), and other events throughout the year. No experience necessary.
