(October 3, 2023) — The United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum invites you to a Contra Dance on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Contra dancing is a form of folk dancing, sometimes described as New England folk dance, with mixed origins from English country dance, Scottish country dance, and French dance styles from the 17th century.
A contra dance event is a social dance opportunity, anyone can attend, no partner needed. The dancers form two-person teams, progressing up and down a line. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of moves. The ingredients of an active evening of dance and friendship will include a “caller,” two fiddlers, and dancers from the local Haddam community and beyond.
Doors open at 7:45 p.m. for a free Contra dance lesson. Cost is $15.00 per person as a suggested donation. Refreshments will be served, and everyone is welcome. The dance will be held at the Haddam Campus of the United Church of Haddam and Higganum, located at 905 Saybrook Road in Haddam. See you there!
