(February 13, 2024) — The following was submitted by the Haddam Committee on Aging to answer some basic questions about the Senior Van and its use for medical visits, shopping trips, etc.
**What qualifies as a medical visit?
Primary care, eye doctor ,dermatologist, cardiologist, physical therapy, treatments.
**What areas of town does the Senior Van serve ?
Haddam, Haddam Neck & Higganum; that is, the town of Haddam.
**Does it make a difference where my doctor is located?
Generally, Middlesex County is the area the van covers. That would be from Cromwell to Old Saybrook.
**How do I make a reservation for the van?
Call right after you make your medical appointment. This way, Neal, the driver, can make his schedule. You can reach Neal at 860-682-3301.
**What hours does the van cover?
Usually between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. But please call Neal. There may be some flexibility about hours.
**Who can use the Senior Van?
You need to live in Haddam, be 60+ years of age or a disabled individual.
**I’m in a wheelchair. Can I use the van?
Yes, the van has a lift and can accommodate two wheelchairs.
**Who pays for the Senior Van?
The town of Haddam funds the van and provides this service. There is no cost to the riders.
**Where else does the van go?
The van can pick up and bring you to the Senior Center for a hot lunch or to attend activities.
**How about shopping?
The van travels every Tuesday to Walmart in Cromwell for an hour of shopping. Departure time may vary depending on the number of pickups or medical visits.
**What’s coming in the future?
In connection with the Senior Center, there may be some daytime events planned. Check the monthly activity calendar. You will need to sign up.
