Tylerville Roundabouts Project: Two-Week Look-Ahead

Submitted by Sara Mendillo, Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce

(October 29, 2024) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has provided the following two-week lookahead for the Tylerville Roundabouts project in Haddam.  Please use caution when traveling through this area.

A traffic shift to the new bridge and the new roadway alignment utilizing the Southern Roundabout is upcoming.  Similar to the activity this past summer, there will be another ten day time period where the travelling public can expect to be driving on Process Aggregate (Gravel) from now through November 8, 2024.  There will be two portions of Route 154 that will begin Full Depth Reconstruction and gravel roadway travel.  The first portion is North of the Bridge, going from the entrance to the new trail parking area up to the current construction entrance.  The second will be along Route 154 South of the Roundabout, just North of the work done previously.

Please note that with these traffic shifts, the travelling public will begin utilizing portions of the Southern Roundabout.

The shift is proposed to be broken up into two phases: the first will keep a stop sign on Route 82, but the location will be moved to a location prior to the new Roundabout (at the “S” curve out there now). Route 154 will travel around a portion of the Southern Roundabout flowing without a stop as they do now. Route 82 comes to the stop before the Roundabout and makes the appropriate turn.

With the second shift, the roundabout will be complete and the travelling public will start “getting used to” the roundabout configuration.

Northern Roundabout
No work expected as all efforts are on the Southern Roundabout.

  3. Full Depth Reconstruction just north and south of the Southern Roundabout. This will be the are where traffic will be traveling along process aggregate.  The majority (if not all) of the work is to take place at night.
  4. Various daytime lane closures along Rote 154 and Route 82.
  5. The remaining traffic impacts will be truck traffic entering and exiting the site.
    • Material/Equipment Deliveries

As stated, the contractor is not allowed to impact traffic within the following timeframe (within shifting stages):

Monday – Friday:      6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday – Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

All traffic patterns and/or project work are subject to change as necessary.  Construction of this nature requires flexibility, as it requires the coordination of many sub-contractors, as well as sequenced work.
