(October 2, 2022)—The Haddam-Killingworth Girls Soccer team moved their winning streak to four games in a row after defeating Wilbur Cross on September 29, and Shoreline Conference opponent Westbrook on September 30, 2022. Goalkeepers Vyv Laurenza and Ryleigh Johnson combined play in each game to secure the wins.
The Cougars defeated Wilbur Cross in New Haven by a score of 3-2. Wilbur Cross put the first goal of the game in when Cross captain Lia Konicki was able to penetrate the Cougars defense. Seasea Ruimerman was able to balance the score by netting a goal at the end of the first half. In the second half, the Cougars were able to secure two more goals, when Freshmen Maddie Sanderson and Payton Kaplowitz scored. Wilbur Cross was able to get one more late goal in, but HK secured the win in a close game.
The next day, the Cougars played in a conference away game at Westbrook High School. Seasea Ruimerman scored twice, while Julia Favalora, Maddie Sanderson and Emmy Kehlenbach scored for HK. It was a complete performance, with a group that is very responsible, a group that, in spite of back-to-back games with no time to rest, came out and won very important victory and, more important, put on a very good performance. They were solid. The Cougars were hard to break down. They scored goals and had good moments on the field where they looked very connected. They secured a 5-0 shutout and now have their eyes on Canton. It will be the Cougars fifth game in a row on the road. They will play under the lights on October 3, 2022 at Canton High School with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
