(December 3, 2023) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation advises the following construction activities at the Haddam/East Haddam Swing Bridge for the upcoming week of December 3, 2023. There will be complete overnight bridge closures as follows:
- Sunday night (12/3) into Monday morning (12/4) – 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Monday night (12/4) into Tuesday morning (12/5) – 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Tuesday night (12/5) into Wednesday morning (12/6) – 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Wednesday night (12/6) into Thursday morning (12/7) – 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Extended Lane Closure
- A section of travel lane on the bridge has been removed from service so the contractor can continue with rehabilitation work. This will limit the bridge to one operational lane for motorists to proceed through this area. Temporary traffic signals will regulate the alternating traffic flow on the bridge. This extended lane closure will be in place until March 31, 2024. Motorists should expect some delays when crossing the bridge during this four-month duration.
- An important note on the one-way alternating traffic pattern that began on December 1, 2023. CTDOT has adjusted the traffic signal timing to account for heavy traffic going westbound during the morning commute and eastbound during the evening commute. We appreciate your continued patience and ask that you incorporate additional travel time into your schedules as CTDOT monitors traffic queues and adjusts the sequence of signal timing where necessary.Click here to view the one-lane traffic pattern.
Marine Advisory
- The swing span is no longer opening to accommodate marine traffic passage. Scheduled openings will resume on April 1, 2024.
