Swing Bridge 63 Hour Closure Cancelled for July 16th

(July 15, 2023) — Please be advised that the 63-hour bridge closure scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2023 has been cancelled.  There will, however, be overnight full bridge closures as follows:

  • Sunday (7/16) night into Monday (7/17) morning – 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Monday (7/17) night into Tuesday (7/18) morning – 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday (7/18) night into Wednesday (7/19) morning – 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday (7/19) night into Thursday (7/20) morning – 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The 63-hour bridge closures will resume Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 8:00 p.m., unless otherwise advised.

DETOUR INFO Motorist alternative options to cross the Connecticut River during these overnight bridge closures will be as follows:

  • Traveling to/from the South – Use the signed detour utilizing the Baldwin Bridge (I-95 Old Saybrook).
  • Traveling to/from the North – utilize the Arrigoni Bridge (Middletown-Portland).

  • Effective November 11, 2022, any trucks that exceed 16 tons are restricted from using the East Haddam Swing Bridge, until further notice. Routine enforcement by the Connecticut State Police and Department of Motor Vehicles will continue to occur during this 16-ton restriction period.
  • Project traffic WEBCAMS (one on each side of the river) are available 24/7 to monitor the traffic conditions at the bridge, the camera feeds are viewable from our project website homepage.
