State Trooper and Cromwell Firefighter Injured on Route 9 in Cromwell Accident

(February 8, 2023)–Pedestrian #1, Trooper Atkins #1021 and Pedestrian #2, Cromwell Firefighter Bicking had arrived at a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 southbound in the area of the merge with I-91 southbound to Route 9 south.

While investigating the accident and actively working at the scene, Vehicle #1 was traveling on I-91 southbound to Route 9 southbound.

Vehicle #1 lost control the curved roadway, traveled through the grass gore area and entered from the side of the scene of the prior motor vehicle accident.

Vehicle #1 struck Trooper Atkins #1021 and Firefighter Bicking.

Vehicle #1 came to an uncontrolled final rest position off the right shoulder of Route 9 southbound in the grass.

The Operator of Vehicle #1 was not injured.

Trooper Atkins and Firefighter Bicking were injured as a result of being struck by Vehicle #1 and were transported to Hartford Hospital.

The Operator of Vehicle #1 was charged with numerous motor vehicle violations and released with a $1,000 non-surety bond with a court date at GA9 in Middletown on 02/27/23.
