State Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) Trains Trooper Response to Active School Threats

WHEN: Wednesday, August 9, 2023  TIME: 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Harvard H. Ellis Technical School, 613 Upper Maple Street, Killingly

WHAT: Certified ESU Members will spend three days training patrol Troopers, Resident Troopers and Constables from Troop D and Troop K on baseline tactics to stop an active threat within schools. This training includes a classroom portion on best practices, updates in tactical response and lesson learned from other school events, tactics and scenarios.

Media is invited to join Troopers on the third and final day for scenarios within the school. This will be a photo opportunity, as well as a time to talk with Troopers about the training.

Since 2016, ESU has conducted this type of training for approximately 8,000 people throughout Connecticut in houses of worship, businesses, schools and other law enforcement agencies. Training provided to active-duty Troopers is an extension of what they learned in the academy, with updates on tactics.
