State Legislature Candidate to Receive $36,500 Grant

Submitted by Kathryn Russell

(August 5, 2024) — Kathryn Russell, Republican candidate for the 36th House District seat, has announced that her campaign has been approved to receive a campaign finance grant of $36,500 through the state’s Citizens Elections Program.

Members of the State Elections Enforcement Commission  approved Russell’s application to the program through a unanimous vote on July 31, 2024.

“I’m truly grateful for the people who quickly stepped forward to contribute to my campaign, and have expressed their support  for me to serve as their voice in the legislature,” said Russell, running to serve Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam in the Connecticut House of Representatives. “People in our four towns are feeling the pressure of inflation and are finding  daily life becoming increasingly unaffordable. They want leaders in Hartford who are not only experienced and ready to serve, but who are fiscally conservative and committed to making our state a more affordable place to live.”

As she meets with people in the community, people consistently tell her that now, more than ever, they want a strong voice and an active listener who will use financial common sense in developing and evaluating legislation designed to help Town residents and small businesses thrive.

Russell is competing to fill the seat held by State Representative Christine Palm, who has decided not to run for another term. The election will be held on November 5, 2024.

Russell applied for a financial grant from the state’s Citizens Election Program, which was designed to allow candidates for state offices to compete without having to rely on special interest money. Russell moved quickly to raise the $5,800 and collect contributions from 150 people who live within the district’s four towns.

Russell currently serves as Selectwoman in Deep River and has an extensive record of corporate business experience. When elected, Russell plans to focus her efforts on making Connecticut more affordable, supporting community safety and ensuring natural resource protection.
