Middletown Garden Club Hosts Author Lindsey Taylor on April 18th

Submitted by Deborah Shapiro

(April 8, 2024) — The Middletown Garden Club is pleased to host author Lindsey Taylor on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wadsworth Mansion, 421 Wadsworth Street in Middletown.

Taylor will speak about her new book, Art in Flower: Finding Inspiration in Art and Nature. She introduces her readers to a unique practice that combines art and flowers—ultimately offering a new way to look at the natural world. Based on her popular and long-running Wall Street Journal column “Flower School,” she translates the palettes, compositions, brushstrokes, and mood of works of art into floral arrangements.

Organized by season, Art in Flower features forty works by an extraordinary group of artists across a diverse range of mediums, periods, and styles, from eighteenth-century Indian paintings and nineteenth-century Japanese prints to American landscapes, Impressionist masterpieces, and contemporary works.

In short texts accompanying each artwork-floral arrangement pair, Taylor walks readers through her process of interpreting the art with flowers and foliage. The stunning but achievable results are then revealed, alongside a list of the flowers used to make the arrangement.

Taylor is the founder of Lindsey Taylor Design, which creates gardens and landscapes for public and private clients throughout the Northeast. Taylor is a former garden editor at Martha Stewart Living, Domino, and Garden Design magazines and her work has appeared in the New York Times, T Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and Gardenista. For nearly a decade, she produced, wrote and styled the Journal’s well-loved “Flower School” column in its “Off Duty” section.

Copies of Art in Flowers will be available for purchase and inscription by the author. The event is free and open to the public. The Wadsworth Mansion is handicapped-accessible. For further information call Jane Harris at 860-306-2709.
