Former president backs local candidate for state representative

CHESTER (Oct. 1, 2018) — Democratic candidate for state representative in the 36TH House District Christine Palm has received the endorsement of former President Barack Obama. The district covers the towns of Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam.

“I am deeply honored to receive the support of President Obama,” Palm said. “I’m grateful for his recognition of my common-sense approach to progressive economic policies on behalf of working families, including higher minimum wage and equitable taxation, and my desire to enhance women’s rights, keep our schools safe and academically excellent, and protect the environment,” said Palm. “My job is to listen to the aspirations and concerns of people in the lower Connecticut River Valley, and I look forward to having the opportunity to advocate on their behalf as we look for new ways to invest in the state.”

Palm’s endorsement by Obama was announced through the national Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC). Palm is one of only a handful of Connecticut House candidates backed by the former president, who is also a former state legislator.

“We are excited to join forces with President Obama to highlight the amazing men and women like Christine Palm running in must-watch races for their state legislatures,” said DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post. “We stand united and will do everything we can to elect candidates like Christine who will stand up for democratic values and work to move our nation forward.”

A lifelong Connecticut resident and mother of four sons, Palm and her husband live in Chester and love the region’s beauty, vibrancy and strong community spirit. Palm, who has been a newspaper reporter and a high school teacher, is the owner of Sexual Harassment Prevention, LLC, which works with corporations, as well as academic and non-profit institutions, to create better workplace environments. She recently served as a policy analyst for the state Commission on Women, Children and Seniors, and before that was Communications Director of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.
