Oct. 11, 2018 Special Town Meeting Results

By Ed Munster.

All three items on the agenda of the Special Town Meeting were passed unanimously. The Town Meeting was called to order by First Selectwoman Lizz Milardo at 6:30 p.m. at the Firehouse in Higganum with about 40 residents in attendance. Anthony Giamei was elected Moderator.

After acceptance of the call of the meeting, Mr. Giamei read the first item on the agenda which was the proposed sale of lot 12 at 141 Silver Spring Drive to Dante Ursini. By way of background, Milardo pointed out that the Town twice advertised auctions to sell the five lots which the Town owns in the subdivision. There were no bidders at the minimum bid of $50,000 per lot at either of the two auctions. Subsequently, Mr. Ursini offered the Town $42,500 to purchase this particular lot. After a question from the floor about the process, the vote was called and the motion passed unanimously.

The next item on the agenda was the granting of an easement on town property to the State of Connecticut needed for the Dublin Hill Road Bridge. Milardo explained that the easement involved about 300 square feet needed for parking of equipment during the repair of the bridge. There were no questions from the audience. The motion passed unanimously.

The third item on the agenda was the appointment of four members (Daniel Belanger, Jason Lonergan, David Fleig and Mary Alice Hughes) to the Haddam-Killingworth Park and Recreation Authority which needed to be done at a Town Meeting, explained Milardo. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
