The MIDDLESEX HOSPITAL VOCAL CHORDS (MHVC) is proud to announce our new Musical Director, Samuel Tucker, effective January 1, 2022. Sam brings a wealth of musical knowledge and expertise to our 32 year old chorus. “I am so excited to be the new Musical Director for MHVC!” said Samuel. “My overall philosophy of music is that it should bring connection, beauty, healing, and joy to our lives. Given what we have been through in the last couple of years, I feel that mission is more important than ever. Bringing these things to the public, and to each other, can make a huge difference. I look forward to sharing some wonderful music with my new musical family.”
Samuel Tucker is the Portland Secondary Schools Choral Director, where he teaches chorus to grades 7 – 12 as well as AP/UConn Music Theory. He has been teaching for nineteen years and has been in Portland for the last ten. Sam went to the Morgan School in Clinton, CT and developed a passion for music under the direction of Mr. John Lampe. He graduated summa cum laude from Boston University in 2003 and received his Masters in Music Education from Bridgewater State University in 2008.
In addition to directing choral ensembles at Portland Middle and High Schools, Sam works with students auditioning for the Regional and All-State Festivals. This year he will be directing his eighth high school show, “The Little Mermaid,” on March 18 and 19, 2022.
In his free time, Sam enjoys kayaking on the CT River, aquaculture, running, playing guitar, attending concerts whenever possible, and spending time with his wife and six year old daughter.
We look forward to beginning our new journey with a very talented and gifted young man!
