Submitted by Peter Sonski.

[HADDAM, 01/17/2022] – Saint Peter Knights of Columbus Council 14590 was named as a winner in the American Red Cross Pump It Up Challenge, which recognizes high-achieving blood drive sponsors that have grown the number of blood donations collected in their community to help hospital patients in need.

Committed to helping save lives, Haddam Knights have helped collect 249 Red Cross blood donations for patients in need during 2021. The council has already achieved the honored distinction of the Premier Blood Partner with the Red Cross, having collected a total of 1247 units of blood.

“Giving blood is a simple act of generosity that can truly make a lifesaving difference. Last year, we received an outpouring of support from the community at our blood drives, and our goal is to make it a success again this year for patients who are counting on us,” said the Knights’ blood drive leader, Peter Sonski. “We are proud to partner with the Red Cross as a Premier Blood Partner and help it fulfill its critical mission.”

The need for blood is constant. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, according to the Red Cross.

Local residents are invited to make a difference with Saint Peter K of C by donating at an upcoming Red Cross blood drive, held Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Saint Peter Church Hall.

To schedule an appointment to donate, visit rcblood.org/appt or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

The Knights of Columbus was founded as a fraternal and charitable service organization in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882. It has 2 million members in 17,000 local councils in North and Central America, Europe and Asia.
