Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords Award Grants to Area High School Seniors

Submitted by Kate Porch

(May 17, 2023) — At our recent spring concert, the Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords (MHVC) awarded $1500 grants to each of the following graduating seniors:

—–Mackenzie True, graduating from Westbrook High School, will be attending the University of Delaware, majoring in nursing.

—–Drew MacNeil, graduating from Nathan Hale-Ray High School, will be attending the University of Connecticut, majoring in music.

—–Catherine Minegar, graduating from Old Saybrook High School, will be attending Salve Regina in Rhode Island, majoring in nursing.

In considering a grant award, the scholarship committee looks at the students’ academic records, extracurricular/community service activities, the ability to articulate career goals and the recommendations of references.  We commend these students for their achievements and wish them the best as they continue on their journey.

To date, MHVC has awarded $80,500 in annual grants to area seniors who pursue careers in either music or nursing.  This is made possible by continued support via ticket sales, and contributions to our annual Patron Drive. Thanks to all who have contributed and attended our concerts.   With the recent retirement of our longtime Music Director, Gina Fredericks, the executive board has named the Annual Music Grant in her honor.  Thanks to Gina for her dedication and continued support.

Rehearsals for our Holiday Concert will resume on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.  For more information, please visit our website at vocalchords20.org, visit us on Facebook and check us out on YouTube!
