(April 14, 2023)—Members of Haddam Volunteer Fire Company participated in a simulated ATV accident training April 10 at Haddam Meadows State Park. The drill enabled members to practice patient care and transporting injured patients using an UTV.
In a mock scenario, crews were dispatched to an accident in the woods involving a four-wheeler vs. tree. Members accessed the scene using Haddam Fire’s UTV-13 and encountered two unconscious patients, one who was thrown from the four-wheeler. (The patients were played by HVFC Junior Division members.)
Members assessed the condition of each patient and worked in teams to carefully stabilize the two patients on backboards and load them onto the UTV for transport.
“This was a realistic scenario that allowed members to practice patient care while refreshing their skills on using the UTV,” said Captain Josh Meyer.
