Re: October 22 article by Brian Scott-Smith
I am a Killingworth resident. I saw Brian’s article on corporate drug providers switching customers away from local pharmacies, and am very concerned.
I have drug coverage through a Medicare part D plan that is sponsored by AARP. The company is called WellCare Value Script (PDP). They just notified me by mail that I will pay an extra cost for drugs unless I switch from Killingworth Family Pharmacy to CVS.
This offends me because I support local businesses and don’t want to see them run out of business by gigantic, greedy corporations.
My local pharmacy, Killingworth Family Pharmacy, is owned by a local person who has always provided my family with good advice and great service, sometimes beyond the call of duty. Try getting that kind of consideration from CVS.
I intend to complain loudly to AARP and to the plan provider, and I will threaten to leave them and stay with my pharmacy. I will also contact my congressional representative, to make sure he is aware of this practice. Perhaps if enough of us express our resentment about the practice covered in Brian’s article, the companies involved with reconsider their greed-driven practice.
