When the 2022 legislative session started back in February, I made tax relief a high priority because I knew from listening to and working with our friends and neighbors how the COVID-19 pandemic had financially affected so many families across our towns. This priority became that much more important to me as people started to feel the pinch of inflation in their pocketbooks.I’m glad that my colleagues and I could work together to craft a state budget, approved with bipartisan support, that delivers millions in tax relief – including creating the Child Tax Rebate. This Child Tax Rebate is worth up to $250 per child, with a maximum value of $750 per family. The deadline to apply for and claim this tax relief is just days away. Any Connecticut resident who claimed at least one dependent child under the age of 18 on their 2021 federal income tax return may be eligible and has until Sunday, July 31, 2022 to apply.
The following income guidelines will determine eligibility for the maximum rebate of $250 per child, while those with higher income rates may be eligible for a reduced rebate:
- Single or married, filing separately: $100,000 or less
- Head of household: $160,000 or less
- Married, filing jointly: $200,000 or less
Do not wait to click here to find out if you are eligible and apply for this tax relief. Call the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services at 860-297-5999 if you need assistance with completing your application. Also, check out the department’s FAQ section or informational flyer on their website to learn more about the Child Tax Rebate. The department recommends when filling out the Child Tax Rebate application that you complete it on a PC or Mac computer instead of using a cell phone. Microsoft Edge or Firefox browsers or the Safari browser if using a Mac computer are suggested to be used. Please do not wait to apply for this tax relief as there are only a few days left until the July 31st deadline.
