Letter to the Editor: A Different View on Climate Change

The views stated here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the editors of this newspaper. We welcome supporting or opposing views on any published item. Received July 9, 2023.

There is never a day that goes by when climate change is not part of a newscast in some way or another.  It is being drilled into our heads and more significantly into our children that global warming will likely lead to the end of mankind.   Some are saying we must spend whatever it takes to avoid the impending disaster.

I recently read an article, “Thinking Smartly About Climate Change” by Bjorn Lomborg in Imprimis, which is a publication of Hillsdale College.   In the article Lomborg says “To begin to think smartly about climate change, we have to understand climate-related economics.  There are costly damages associated with climate change, but there are also costly damages associated with climate policies.  Too many politicians and the media concentrate on the former.  Since we must bear the costs of the policies as well as the costs of climate change, we and our policymakers should take both into account.”

The article is too lengthy to print in our newspaper, but I encourage you to read it for another point of view on climate change policies.   To do so enter the following link in your browser:
