Legislative Updates on Energy Assistance and Shore Line East

Submitted by State Sen. Norm Needleman

(September 2, 2023) — Applications are now being accepted for the 2023-2024 Low-Income Heating Energy Assistance Program. Households that may need additional financial aid this winter to heat their homes may be eligible to apply, receiving benefits worth several hundreds of dollars toward their heating bills, depending on income level, household size and whether a member of the household is vulnerable. Benefits are usually paid directly to utility companies or fuel suppliers; households heating with deliverable fuels like oil or propane may be eligible for additional fuel deliveries.Connecticut residents whose households receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Temporary Family Assistance (TFA), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), State Supplement for the Aged, Blind and Disabled benefits or Refugee Cash Assistance, or whose annual household income falls at or below 60% of the state’s median income, are eligible. Applications are available online, by phone, email, mail or in-person. Applicants will need to gather energy and/or water documents, income documents and potential documents as needed. For more information and to apply, click here
