Killingworth Town Picnic Presents Food, Music and Fun October 5th

Submitted by All Things Killingworth

(September 25, 2024) — The All Things Killingworth Town Picnic is set to make a vibrant return to the Deer Lake Outdoors Center on October 5, 2024 starting at 2:00 p.m. and bringing together community members for a day of live music, delicious food, and engaging activities. With the last one originally held in the early 2000’s, this reimagined event promises to celebrate the spirit of Killingworth while embracing new experiences for all ages.

“This isn’t just a revival; it’s a fresh take on a beloved tradition,” said Nancy McCormick, President of the Killingworth Women’s Organization (KWO). “We’re excited to create an inclusive space where everyone can come together, enjoy great music, and support local causes.”

Attendees can look forward to live performances in front of the Deer Lake lagoon from local favorites including The Red Planet, John Spignesi Band, and Green Hill, setting the perfect backdrop for a day of fun. A diverse array of food will be available from popular vendors such as Cafe Laurel, James Madison House, The Greenery, Fire in the Kitchen, Killingworth Lions, and Sunday’s Pie Truck, ensuring there’s something to satisfy every palate.

In addition to great food and music, Barrelhouse will be hosting a Beer & Wine Garden offering local brews and wines, making this picnic a perfect way to unwind. All the alcohol will be donated by Barrelhouse with proceeds going to the beneficiaries. The event will also feature many local non-profits like Deer Lake Outdoor Center, Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services, and the Killingworth Historical Society, showcasing the organizations that make our community strong.

“Part of our mission is to foster connections within the community,” said Jenn Carroll, co-Director of Deer Lake Outdoor Center “By highlighting local non-profits, we hope to inspire attendees to get involved and support these important causes. We’ve seen what happens when we all come together. Deer Lake still exists thanks to the power of this community.”

Families can enjoy live animals from Meigs Point Nature Center,  A Place Called Hope, the Kenilworth American Kennel Club, and the Land & Sea Newfoundland Training Group, Inc. along with a variety of activities and games designed for kids, including a magic show. The Luminary Wish Walk will provide a thoughtful space for attendees to reflect and share their hopes for the future.

Craft vendors will add to the festive atmosphere, featuring creations from many local artisans, including Bittersweet Farm, Henna Designs by Morgan, and Timeless Living Designs.

Proceeds from the All Things Killingworth Town Picnic will benefit Homes for the Brave, a transitional home for women veterans and their children, as well as the Deer Lake Day Camp Scholarship Fund, which helps make summer camp accessible to more families.

“This event is a true celebration of Killingworth’s community spirit,” said Sandy Allard, KWO Vice President, “We invite everyone to come out, reconnect with old friends, and make new memories.”

Join us for a day filled with laughter, music, and camaraderie at the All Things Killingworth Town Picnic—an event that celebrates our past while looking forward to a bright future. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of something special!
