Killingworth Copes: September 4, 2020

By Cathy Iino, First Selectman, Killingworth.
Connecticut remains one of the safest states in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Middlesex County is one of the safest parts of the state. But even in this county there are several new cases a day, and over the last couple of weeks there have been an average of over 130 cases a day statewide.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health has issued a COVID-19 alert for Labor Day Weekend. PH Acting Commissioner Deidre Gifford urges Connecticut residents – especially young adults – to take all necessary precautions to avoid risking exposure to COVID-19 and spreading infection.
“We have a beautiful weekend coming up. But as we celebrate the holiday, DPH is reminding residents that small gatherings of family and friends are a major source of infection,” said Acting Commissioner Gifford. “In the past several weeks in Connecticut, we are seeing small gatherings of friends and family leading to COVID-19 infection. If you are getting together with anyone who doesn’t live with you, please:
  • wear your mask,
  • maintain social distance,
  • wash your hands frequently,
  • and use hand sanitizer.”
Transfer Station will be open normal hours, 8 am – 2 pm, tomorrow, September 5. Please wear a mask and keep your distance from others.
Helping Hands food pantry will be open tomorrow, September 5, from 10 am until noon, at the old Center Schoolhouse at the traffic circle. Leave a message at 860-663-1765, x401, saying what nonperishable foods or produce from the Shared Harvest Garden you want, and what time you will be stopping by (between 10 and 12); a volunteer will bring the food to your car. Or come by, pick up an order form outside the building, fill it out, and hand it to a volunteer.
Thanks to the Killingworth Women’s Organization, going forward, the pantry will be open Saturdays, 10 am – noon, and Thursdays, 4 – 6 pm.

Stay safe and have fun!

Cathy
