Killingworth Copes – April 13, 2020 – Transfer Station Changes & Stimulus Payments

By Cathy Iino.

Hello, Killingworth–
Governor Lamont noted on Sunday that Connecticut’s rate of infection with COVID-19 is about one-third that of New York State. Nevertheless, Connecticut is seeing hundreds of new cases and hospitalizations each day, and over 600 people with COVID-19 have died. Middlesex County currently has 339 confirmed cases and 19 deaths. Please don’t let down your guard.
Stimulus payments. Keep your eye on the IRS Economic Impact Payments page if you think you qualify for a $1,200 stimulus payment. For most taxpayers, including those who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees, payments are automatic, and no further action is needed. You may, however, wish to file a “Get My Payment” application to have the funds deposited directly into your bank account. This will expedite your payment. The application will be posted on the IRS website shortly.
The website also explains why you might need to file in order to get your payment and has an on-line form to do so. And if you want to receive a check but have moved since you last filed, you can file a change of address via the website.
Food assistance. No one in Killingworth should go hungry. Many people’s circumstances have changed with the COVID-19 pandemic. If you need food, please leave a message for Helping Hands at 860-663-1765, ext. 401, and someone will contact you to make arrangements to get food to you.
New Transfer Station hours for bulky waste and brush disposal. Starting April 15, 2020 we will be accepting bulky waste and brush at the Transfer Station on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. No household trash or recycling will be accepted at that time. To keep things moving and prevent crowding, please try to minimize your trips to the Transfer Station.
Your vehicle must display a red or green dump sticker, and the usual rules apply:
  • Bulky waste includes large items such as furniture, mattresses and box springs, large toys, and very small amounts of construction materials. Homeowners with more substantial amounts of construction debris must leave a message at Town Hall (860-663-1765) and obtain permission to deposit the debris at the Town Garage. Plan ahead; we may not be able to give you permission on the day you call.
  • Brush must not be more than 3″ in diameter or 8′ long.
  • Chipped brush for mulch is available free to residents during these hours.
Stay home, stay safe–
Cathy
