KHS Book Signing: Early Gravestones of a Colonial Town: Killingworth

Submitted by Cynthia Rich.

The Killingworth Historical Society is holding a book signing of Dr. Thomas Lentz’s newest book, The Early Gravestones of a Colonial Town: Killingworth, Connecticut. Dr. Lentz is the Town Historian and the author of several books about Killingworth history.

It will be held at the Parmelee Farmhouse on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The book signing will coincide with an Open House of The Killingworth Historical Society’s exhibits and displays at The Parmelee Farmhouse.

This book documents and photographically records over 450 gravestones in Killingworth, Clinton, and Durham, Connecticut. A major purpose of the book is to preserve images of the remaining early gravestones in this part of Connecticut, many of which are deteriorating. Styles, symbolism, and iconography are discussed, as well as causes of death and burial practices.

The book can be purchased from the Killingworth Historical Society at its open houses at the Parmelee Farm (Sept. 8, 2019, 3:00-5:00 p.m.), at the Killingworth Town Hall, at RJ Julia Booksellers, and Amazon.com.
