HVFC Responds: Two Back-to-Back Motor Vehicle Accidents on Route 9 South

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Information Officer.

(February 14, 2023)–Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two, back-to-back motor vehicle accidents today (Feb. 11) on Route 9 South.

At 2:05 p.m., crews were dispatched to a single-car accident between exits 13 and 10 (old exits 8 and 7). A driver had lost control of his vehicle and struck three separate sections of guardrails along Route 9 before coming to a stop. The driver was able to self-extricate from the passenger’s door. The patient was evaluated on scene and taken to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Ambulance Service.

While that call was being cleared, HVFC was sent to assist at a two-car motor vehicle accident between exits 15 and 13 (old exits 9 and 8 ). Upon arrival, crews observed that both cars had extensive front end damage. Four adults, a 2-year-old, and a 1-month-old were evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment.

In both incidents, crews closed one lane of traffic and helped clean up vehicle debris and liquid spills.
