HVFC Responds to Two Motor Vehicle Accidents on Route 81

(May 6, 2023) — Haddam Volunteer Fire Company recently responded to two motor vehicle accidents on Killingworth Road (Route 81) in Higganum.


At 7:00 a.m. on April 22, 2023, crews were dispatched to the area of 816 Killingworth Road where a driver had smashed into and snapped a utility pole. The vehicle’s operator had self-extricated and was transported to Middlesex Hospital by Haddam Volunteer Ambulance. HVFC closed both lanes of traffic until Eversource deemed the area was safe.

At 11:45 a.m. on May 4, 2023, HVFC responded to the area of 320 Killingworth Road for a car vs. tree. A driver heading southbound on Killingworth Road crossed into the northbound lane and struck a series of trees.

Firefighters used chainsaws to clear a pathway through heavy brush to access and safely remove the patient. The patient was transported to Hartford Hospital with injuries. Crews closed the northbound lane of Route 81 during the incident.
