HVFC Responds to Three Motor Vehicle Accidents on Route 9

(August 27, 2024) — The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company recently responded to three incidents on Route 9 involving motor vehicles.
At 10:20 p.m. on August 24, 2024, HVFC, with mutual aid from South Fire District Middletown, responded to a vehicle fire on Route 9 South between exits 19 and 15. South District was first on scene and extinguished the fire, which damaged the majority of the vehicle.
The operator of the vehicle self-extricated and was not injured. After extensive overhaul, the vehicle was removed from the road. The Haddam Fire Marshal is investigating.
At 7:30 a.m. on August 22, 2024 HVFC, with mutual aid from Chester Hose Company Inc., responded to an accident on Route 9 North between exits 10 and 13. A vehicle veered off the road and went about fifty feet down an embankment. The driver was evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment. Crews blocked one lane of traffic while the vehicle was removed from the woods. The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
At 8:10 a.m. on August 19, 2024, crews responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 North between exits 15 and 19. A vehicle skidded off the road and struck a tree in the left median. The driver was evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment. Crews blocked one lane of traffic while the vehicle was removed from the road. The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
