HVFC Responds to Tenth Motor Vehicle Accident in October

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Information Officer.

(October 30, 2023)—Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle accidents today (Oct. 30).

At midnight, crews were dispatched to Route 9 South between exits 19 and 15 where a vehicle had crashed into a bridge abutment. The operator was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Hunters Ambulance Service. The incident is under investigation with Connecticut State Police.

At 2:30 p.m., Haddam Fire and Chester Hose Company Inc. responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 154 (Saybrook Road) at Haddam-Chester town line. A driver heading northbound struck a large tree that had fallen across both lanes of traffic and knocked down power lines. The driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Crews closed a section of 154 and rerouted traffic down Dudley Clark Road in Haddam to Goose Hill Road in Chester. The road remains closed as Eversource works to clear the tree debris and restore power in the area.

HVFC has responded to 10 motor vehicle accidents in October.
