(November 5, 2024) — At 4:45 p.m. on October 23, 2024 Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a reported structure fire on Plains Road. Upon arrival, officers encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the house.
Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish and contain a small fire to the room of origin in the basement.
The homeowners were able to get out of the house with their two dogs and one cat, but one cat perished during the fire. The family of four is now displaced due to heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
Firefighters from Middletown South District, Chester Hose Company, East Haddam, Haddam Neck, Killingworth, Deep River and Durham assisted at the scene as mutual aid. Crews remained on scene for about two hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with Haddam Fire Marshal.
