HVFC Responds to Historic Home Fire on Saybrook Road

(June 9, 2023) — At 2:50 a.m., on June 7, 2023, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, along with several mutual aid companies, responded to a structure fire at 1236 Saybrook Road in Haddam. Upon arrival, the structure was completely involved.

The historic home—built in 1790—was unoccupied at the time.


The fire is under investigation with the Haddam Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.

Mutual aid was provided on scene by Chester, Deep River, Middletown, and Middletown South District.Tankers from Chester, Haddam Neck, Essex, Killingworth, Durham, Clinton, Middlefield, Portland, and Westbrook assisted with water supply. Durham assisted with establishing a fill site at Midway Marina in Haddam.

Deep River and Killingworth provided town wide coverage during the incident.

The call was cleared approximately four hours later.
