By Olivia Drake, HVFC Public Information Officer

(March 24, 2024) — Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, with mutual aid response from Chester Hose Company, responded to a motor vehicle accident at 9:40 p.m. on March 22, 2024 on Route 9 South between exits 13 and 10. A vehicle went off the road, struck about 200 feet of guardrail, hit ledge, and flipped onto its side.

Upon arrival, companies encountered a fully involved vehicle fire and a small brush fire on the edge of the road.

The vehicle’s operator was able to self-extricate. The driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire.

A section of Route 9 was closed for about two hours.

After the vehicle was towed, Connecticut Department of Transportation crews covered both lanes of Route 9 in sand where an oil spill had occurred.
