HVFC Responds to Brush Fire on Turkey Hill Road

By Oliva Drake, HVFC Information Officer

(February 16, 2023)–Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a reported brush fire at 5:05 p.m. Feb. 8 off Turkey Hill Road. Upon arrival, crews encountered what appeared to be a bonfire burning on the powerline trails between Turkey Hill Road and Plains Road. Firefighters accessed the scene using Utility Truck 11-13 and Brush Truck 12-13 and extinguished the fire, which measured approximately 5-feet-wide.

Although Connecticut traditionally experiences high forest fire danger in the spring— from March through May—this abnormally warm winter and lack of snow have elevated forest fire danger levels from low to moderate and high. In an average year approximately 500 acres of Connecticut woodland are burned by forest fires.
