(February 15, 2023)–Today marks the 36th anniversary of the death of Higganum resident and firefighter John A. Bertolini. John was 39 years old and was the only member of Haddam Volunteer Fire Company to give his life in the line of duty. John was a 22-year veteran of the department and also served four years in the U.S. Navy. In 1973, John co-founded the Haddam Junior Volunteer Fire Company (now the Junior Division). John’s name is inscribed on the Connecticut Fire Academy’s Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Today, he also is honored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
