HVFC & Middletown South Fire District Respond to Motor Vehicle Accident on Route 9

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Public Info. Officer.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Middletown South Fire District responded to a motor vehicle accident at 6:25 p.m. April 18, 2022, on Route 9 South near exit 9. A driver veered off the left side of the road, struck multiple guard rails, went down a steep embankment, and stopped in thick brush. The driver was able to self-extricate before crews arrived on scene.
EMS personnel evaluated and transported the patient to Middlesex Hospital.
Since the vehicle was entangled in tree roots and vines, firefighters used chainsaws to cut away brush and free the truck. New Image Auto towed the vehicle out of the embankment from Route 9 North.
Firefighters closed one lane of traffic in the southbound lane during the incident.
Connecticut State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
