Congratulations to Haddam Volunteer Fire Company Junior Division members John Maziarz and Marc Perras for completing the Introduction to the Fire Service course at the Connecticut Fire Academy!
They were honored at a ceremony on Aug. 10, 2019.
John and Marc joined more than 30 other budding firefighters, ages 14-17, for a week-long program. All participants were affiliated with a municipal fire department in the State of Connecticut.
“The Intro program provides a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable experiences,” John said. “From the skills you learn to the friends you make, it is an amazing first step into the fire service outside of your own department. It’s hard work, but in the end, it’s worth it. It was one of the best weeks of my life.”
HVFC Chief Sam Baber; Deputy Chief Peter Brown; Assistant Chief Jamie Kuchyt; Firefighter and Junior Division leader Jeff Doskos; and Firefighter Teresa Kuchyt attended the ceremony with fellow members of the company, family and friends. Firefighter and Quartermaster Ej Adametz served as a course instructor.
Once John and Marc turn 18, they have the opportunity to join the regular HVFC membership. For more information on the Junior Division program, email membership@haddamfire.org.
